The tetras are doing well

Just did a check this morning on the tetra. It is already the 4th day since they moved in. They are doing very well. I notice that their colours have become more vibrant over the days.
The 3 tetras which have exposed gills are doing well too. Their colours are also very vibrant. Really hope that they recover quickly so that I could put them back with their friends.

The ph (which measure the acidicity of the water) are dropping from slighly more alkaline towards neutral level. The water condition seems to have imrpoved too.

The left over lamb eye is co-existing well with the guppy in another tank. Unfortunately, I do not dare to put these 2 with the rest of the tetras. Worried that they will be bullied by the 50 tetras in the main tank.

How my aquarium started?

It all began when my wife and 2 daughters went for an outing with the child care centre. That term, the child care was teaching sea creatures and they decided to bring the kids to a fish farm. They went to Qianhu, a well known fish farm in Singapore. My 2 daughters brought back about 10 fishes and a fish tank each after having a fun time catching them in Qianhu. I don't know what type of fishes they were but some looks like guppies.

Then came Sunday. My younger daughter, Jackie's Sunday school taught them about creation. She was given some gold fishes. That is when I decided that I should buy a cheap air pump to keep the fishes alive. I bought a 3rd fish tank for the fishes given by the Sunday school.

Without the air-pump, their chances of survival is reduced. I chose the smallest pump which cost me $3, the air tube at 30 cents and 3 air stones 50 cents (each). Naturally, the air tube is to send the air from the pump to the fish aquarium. The air stone was new to me, we don't have that 20 years ago. It's purpose is to break the air into smaller bubbles to prevent turbulent water surface. I bought an air splitter later on to split the air into 3 channels, one for each fish tank. The shop assistant doubted the pump was strong enough but I have proven them wrong. The air was more than sufficent for the 3 tanks.

Second Chance

We went to the aquarium shop today and bought another batch of fishes. This time, we did not mix the species. We bought only Neon Tetras this time round. The quantity is 50 at S$6. I hope they can survive this time round. I read from other web pages that they will do well in a group. Here is a photo of the 50 fishes swimming in our one foot tank.

The shop recommended a disease preventive medicine and we bought it. Hope it helps to keep the fishes alive.

We certainly hope that they are healthy all the time. At the same time, we re-started the hang-over filter which we believed was not the cause of death of the tetras previously. This is a good opportunity to confirm our suspicion.
